It covers everything from quick personal reports to enterprise-scale data models, with row-level security, scheduled refresh and AI-assisted insights.
It's best used for KPI dashboards, executive reporting, finance and operations reporting, sales analytics and any recurring report currently rebuilt in Excel every month. Analysts, finance teams, operations, sales leadership and executives benefit most, with IT owning the underlying data infrastructure. Power BI solves the perennial business-reporting problem of numbers taking days to produce and being out of date by the time they arrive — replacing it with always-on dashboards everyone trusts.

What Power BI is across the service, Desktop and mobile app, and the key concepts that hold it together — semantic models, reports, dashboards, workspaces and apps. We navigate the service through Home, Browse, Workspaces and Apps, then open a report and get comfortable with pages, visuals and the Filters pane.
Turning a static report into an interactive conversation — cross-filtering, cross-highlighting and tooltips, plus slicers and filters for exploring the data on your own terms. We drill down and up within visual hierarchies, drill through to detail pages, and use focus mode and full screen when presenting a single visual.
Saving and returning to a specific report view with bookmarks, and asking natural-language questions of your data with Q&A. We consume dashboard tiles and navigate to their underlying reports, then subscribe to reports and set data alerts so the numbers come to you.
Getting insights out of Power BI and in front of people — exporting visuals and reports to Excel, PDF and PowerPoint, and sharing reports and dashboards with colleagues. We also view reports embedded in Teams and SharePoint, where most people will actually consume them.
